blue heron, in his backyard this week in santa fe. action 7 news reporter regina ruiz takes us to the shelter helping the bird recover. it is unusual for

them to be in the city. a great blue heron normally doesn't live in the desert. they are more common along rivers in california or washington.

but, this one made a crash landing in a santa fe back yard. it may be he was going from one place to another and got caught in a storm. that throws him off

course. the resident who found this very large bird called santa fe police. the animal control officer has been here for 25 years and says he has never seen one

of those in santa fe: the bird had injuries. he had some puncture wounds, so a cat may have gotten him once he got down. now, the great blue heron is at the

wildlife center in espanola getting very special care. the wildlife center is going to do everything it can to get this great blue heron better but it says at this point its

future is uncertain. for now, biologist will help keep this calm around this large bird. the great blue herons are very high stress birds so noise and agitation sometimes

they will try to flee and that uses energy this bird needs to heal. and if this great blue heron gets better enough; eventually it will be let back to
