caring for parrots

to care for a conure, you'd first need toknow what the food requirements are, the nutritional requirements for your bird is. the bird alsoneeds to have the proper size cage. and it's important to watch the spacing of the bars.this is only a show cage, but the spacing of the bar needs to be adequate that theycan't get their head stuck, get hung on a band or something hung on the cage. it's importantto watch your cage and the care of it. conures need plenty of toys. they need toys that theycan chew up and destroy. and they need toys that will stay permanent. so i suggest youbuy some that are wooden, and that are for the purpose of being destroyed. also it'simportant to rotate their toys. just like a child, they get tired of certain ones aftera while. if you rotate new ones in, then they

have something to entertain themselves whenyou're not available to entertain them. clean, fresh water is very important to conures.there is an adage that you can give a bird water, and as long as water's in the bowl,it's fine. that's not so. also, the bird needs to really have spring water, not the waterfrom the tap, because it has so many other things added to it. but i have spring waterthat the birds can be given. i also use a water bottle, and they can drink water outof the water bottle very well. they have a bowl of water, also, but this is mostly forthem to play in. to them to bathe in, or whatever they want to do. this is a nipple that weuse. we hook it to pvc and it makes an automatic waterer, so that they always have fresh waterat all times. i like this idea. it's not always

convenient for everybody to use, or to knowhow to use it, but they're usually very simple to hook up. and, if you get them positionedto the cage for the right size bird with the right size nipple, it works very well thatthey always have fresh water and they have the proper water.
